Growth, Experience & Success

Are you prepared?

Growth, Experience & Success, I've been thinking about this for a while and I stumbled across a quote from Benjamin Franklin - "Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning." This got me thinking.... where do we start?

Mr. Franklin speaks of "continual growth" but where do we begin to grow? Many people may not think about this as much, however it is important. We live in a society where many live for the day, and move along there lives in whichever direction it flows. This should not be.

I'm sure everyone has a goal and that's a great start. We must all have something we yearn for, however we must not stop there. Every step in live we make forward, it must be toward that goal. Many people get caught up in daily activities and forget what they really want and this occurrence should be avoided.

I'm speaking from personal experiences, and just sharing my thoughts on the topic. So in a nutshell, I believe we must have a goal, we must grow and shape our lives in such a way that we can achieve the goal, and we must continue to grow and achieve.

Religion!

Why must Religion defy humans?

Why must Religion defy us? I am no way against Religion or God, but recently I've been thinking about the big role those two factors play, in the daily lives of most of us.

We already have so many barriers in life, we have geographical barriers, language barriers, some people see race as a barrier, and now to the pile Religion? All these barriers keep persons from seeing the true identity of other people.

There is always a preconceived notion when you learn certain things about others. For instance, say a person was walking down the street, and met someone, with a great personality and charm, only to learn that the person is of Muslim faith.... I bet some people would react differently to that, maybe saying "Oh, that person is a Muslim, let me stay away". Then again this is just my opinion on what I've observed.

Now, Listen I'm not saying condemn Religion, everyone has there beliefs, I'm just saying people should not go along with their preconceived notions about others, and accept people for who they are. I'm also trying to say Religion should be a personal thing, something you hold dare, after all it is who you are, however...don't let it control you life. Follow your Religious rules and obligations, however think freely and objectively.

Some people are affected on the daily, with the breaking of relationships, breaking of families and even some people having to turn away true love and friendships. I don't know all the rules of every Religion, but (I'm asking) does it have writings saying two or more people of different Religions, can't live in unity and friendship?

Anyways, I'm not saying everyone is affected by this, however I would love to read some responses and comments on the issue, to broaden my knowledge and understanding.

Are We Genuine?

Do We Think For Ourselves?

Are you a genuine person? Are your morals and values that of what you believe? Have you ever asked yourself these questions? It may seem a bit strange but, we as humans usually get trapped in the ever so changing world. I quote from Therese Baptiste- Cornelis, 'The only constant in life is change.' There are so many changes worldwide currently, and some people tend to 'lose themselves' and adapt to stereotypes.

Okay, speaking in terms of the Caribbean. We, individuals of the Caribbean are often directly influenced by the Americas and foreign culture. We start to act, dress and believe that whatever come from foreign is gold. For example; most Trinidadians who are 'goth, EMO, scene' picked up those personalities from foreign. I'm not saying EVERY goth, emo or scene person isn't genuine, those personalities may actually be genuine among some people. Some people pretend to be who they aren't, just to be socially acceptable, and most of the time they forget who they really are deep down inside.

Recently, I've found myself being susceptible to a foreign culture. I began to only listen to American produced music and forgot about everything local. Now i have realized how wrong of me that was to forget where I came from and what meant the most to me and I've reinstated my morals and values.

I just want to say, don't fall susceptible to stereotypes and don't forget who you are and where you came from. Keep your morals and values high and closest to your heart.

QUOTE of the month:
Happiness is that state of conscientiousness which proceeds from the achievement of one's values. Ayn Rand. (1905- 1982)

Expectations...

First Semester Finally Over...

My first semester is finally over and I'm loving it... actually i'm not. I'm accustom to school, its part of my life. I have a strange love for school, it keeps me going.

When i started my degree, i was honestly frightened a bit. I didn't know what to expect. I pictured strict teachers, tough work and a lot of strange people, but it was quite the opposite. I met tons of wonderful knowledgeable people, great super passionate teachers and the work load was.. i wouldn't say it was easy, it was a bit challenging, but i think i coped well.

I must say i was a tad bit disappointed with respect to my grades. I thought that i would've done better in some classes than the other. I was expecting an A in my reporting class i got a B. I started my Strategic PR class completely oblivious as to what was PR and the concepts of PR but shockingly i got a B+ in that class.

Currently my Grade Point Average is 3.16, which isn't bad and i always wanted my GPA to be 3.0 and above, so i got my wish there.

Anyways, the main point of this blog was to show to you guys that expectations are scary and misguiding. You can never know what to expect when embarking on a challenge or just something grand.
So clear your mind and try your best to succeed in whatever you do.

Oh, check out this awesome poem, i love it.

Life...

What Is life?

Have you ever really sat down or took a little time from your busy schedule and thought about that simple question? What is life?

We all know, Life begins during Human Fertilization. According to Biology life can be based on 6 key characteristics. Life is based on GRIMNER.
  • G-growth
  • R-reproduction
  • I-irritability
  • M-movement
  • N-nutrition
  • E-excretion
  • R-respiration

What do I think?

Ok, lets assume you turn 65 years of age today. With the use of mathematics, I can say that you have lived approximately Twenty three thousand, seven hundred and forty one [23741] days in your entire life so far. My theory is that your entire life is a story book and God's the Author.

According to my theory, we were all placed on this earth to make a positive difference. We were all placed here with our genuine and unique purpose and every day of our existence is just God letting us know that he has faith in us to make a positive change and to accomplish out purpose.

Who are we to say when we die?

We can't know for sure when is our expiry date. We are not the Authors of our story books, he who holds the pen has the power to do anything. I believe that once a person accomplishes his/her life goal and purpose the person's story ends.

The Journey Begins... Now!

Journalism and Public Relations

Don't you love journalism and public relations? It's like having multiple personalities. When you're at home you're simply you, but when your out on the field, you'
re the 'fancy guy in the suit.'

Despite the fancy suit, I love the feeling of dealing with people and getting their views out to the open.

Awkward First Introduction

Hi, my name is Nicholas. I'm a journalism and public relations student, I started the degree in January 2012, semester one is almost finished and I'm loving myself.

This is me :)
